Who Do You Say That I Am?

The other day, I was reading Matthew 16 where again, the Pharisees and Sadducees were testing Jesus' credibility. They just refused to believe that he was the Son Of God. But, they weren't the only ones. There were also folk in Jesus' community who questioned his divine identity. So, in a conversation with his disciples (v.13-19), Jesus asked the question, “Who do men say that the Son of Man is?” They replied some call you John the Baptist, Elijah, Jeremiah, or some other prophet. Then Jesus asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” The question moved from general consensus to personal belief. A personal question requires a personal answer. After Peter answered, " You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus told him that he was blessed to have received that God-given revelation.
I pondered the meaning of the word reveal. Reveal -To make known through divine inspiration, to lay open as to invite inspection, unveil, make known the meaning of something
Then I mused over the questions...
God, what things have you made known to me through divine inspiration?
How have you unveiled yourself to me?
What do you invite me to inspect?

I played the song, Way Maker. It's one that I love to "sit" quietly with. John 1:1-3 came to mind. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made. John 1:14 NLT So the Word became human and made his home among us. I thought about my relationship with Jesus as a disciple and the miracles I have observed and experienced, the teachings I have received, the lessons I have learned, and the fellowship with him that blesses me so much and I began to write my own response to Jesus’ question.
I say that you are….
The one who is gracious to me
The one who always provides daily bread
The one who opened doors for me that people tried to keep closed
The one who is my personal cheerleader who reminds me that with you, I can do it
The one who whispers, “You’re not representing me well, handle that.”
The one who makes spaces for me at tables
The one who protects me and my loves from the evils of this world
The one who sustains me and gives me peace and calm thru turbulent times
The one who guides my steps and keeps me on track
The one who winks at me
The one who lifts my head
The one who coaches me in parenting my children
The one who is faithful, loyal, trustworthy, and consistent
The one who says, “You’ve cried long enough, getup, wash your face and move on.”
The one in whom I hope and who gives me hope
The one who opens my eyes to a new day
The one who keeps me while I sleep
The one who gives me dreams, visions and revelation
The one who gives me ears to hear what you have to say
The one who helps me to be sensitive in prayer
The one with whom I can be authentic and transparent
The one who makes laugh
The one who enables me to soar
The one who never abandons me
I could go on and on and on, about who I say Jesus is but instead, I encourage you to answer the question. ~Shalom

Wanda,
You are such a great writer and this is another one of your "Great Reads." I found myself preaching (to me) while reading your list of who He is to you. While we are all different with different experiences with Him, so much of who He is (to you/me) can be shared by many.
Thank you so much for sharing one of your gifts (bc you have many) with us through this wonderful piece. I am making my list!
May God's blessings and favor always be yours.
Beverly,

“P,“what an awesome question to ponder and what comes to mind for me in one answer is that God sent you into my life in a season when I so desperately needed to experience his presence. I knew without a shadow of a doubt, that it was He who sent you. I was so truly grateful then and even more so now. Thanks “P” for sharing, caring and being obedient to His call, snd walking out His truths revealed by His Spirit. God has…
