A Lenten Prayer for War and Humanity

Merciful God,
We come to You aware that we are fragile. We are dust, and the earth is carrying too much blood.
War is ancient and yet painfully present. It reaches into homes, into friendships, into bodies and minds. Let us not look away.
Lord, have mercy.
We confess how easily we become numb. How quickly we reduce tragedy to headlines. How convenient it is to soften words so we don’t have to feel the weight of them.
Forgive us for choosing comfort over compassion and conviction.
Christ, have mercy.
We lift up those who are sent into war. Men and women who carry weapons, and also carry their souls. Those who have to make split-second decisions that may follow them for the rest of their lives.
Protect their minds. Guard their hearts. Keep them from losing their humanity in order to survive. Where they must act in ways that trouble them later, meet them with mercy and healing.
Lord, have mercy.
We pray for civilians, for children who are learning fear too early, for families living with constant uncertainty, for communities that did not choose this.
Be near to them. Be their shelter. Be their peace.
Christ, have mercy.
God, as we walk through Lent, teach us to grieve what breaks Your heart. Help us to refuse hatred. Teach us to resist dehumanizing anyone in this world that runs on division.
Keep our hearts soft without making us weak. Keep us compassionate without making us naïve.
And in a world that keeps choosing violence, remove the stony hearts and replace them with hearts of flesh, submitted to You.
Amen.

Red Light Prayer Invitation
This Lent, I'm inviting you to make your home a house of intentional intercession.
Replace your porch light with a red bulb as a visible sign that your home is praying for our nation and the world.
When the red light comes on each evening, pause and pray:
For victims of violence.
For grieving families.
For our communities.
For our military.
For our leaders.
For the healing.
Let's answer bloodshed with intercession.
Let's answer fear with prayer.
Let's answer darkness with Light.
When the red light comes on, prayer goes up.
Will you join me?
From God's Light in me to God's Light in you,
WandaP
